Patras
Description
Patra is the third largest city in Greece. Because of its port, it is Greece's gateway to the West, an international commercial center and a hub for trade and communication with Europe.
The city of Patras has a great and long history of four thousand years. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times and was an important center of the Mycenaean era. In ancient times it was a member of the Achaean League. In Roman times and in the Byzantine era, it was a city where trade flourished. In the 19th century it was an important export port and in the 20th and 21st centuries it developed as a commercial, industrial and financial center of the Peloponnese and Western Greece.
Projects such as the Rio-Antirrio Bridge, the longest cable-stayed multi-span bridge in the world, as well as distinctions such as the designation of the city as the European Capital of Culture, have contributed to the Municipality of Patras being a modern, active municipality.
Today, with a vision and a strategic framework, it collaborates, monitors, applies and personalizes the possibilities of technology and science to the needs of the city's residents with the goal of green, smart and sustainable development.
